Everyone wants to have a beautiful
silver Ganesha idol but they fail to keep it clean. Cleaning a silver
idol is not at all a tough job. You just need five minutes and you
can clean the statue without even rubbing or scrubbing.
On coming in contact with air, as well
as moisture, silver tarnishes and loses the sheen.
To clean silver Ganesh murti, you
would need only three basic ingredients that are easily available in
the kitchen. You would need baking soda, salt, and aluminium foil.
The baking soda reacts with aluminium and cleans the surface of the
silver idol.
Firstly, put water to boil and keep the
tarnished silver Ganesha idol in a large vessel. If you are cleaning
more than one idol, or other items with the silver idol, make sure
you use a large vessel so as the silver items don’t overlap on one
another. You can use any vessel but make sure you don’t use a
plastic bucket for the purpose. You can also use an aluminium
pressure cooker.
Now, sprinkle baking soda and salt on
the items in generous amount. Place one or two pieces of aluminium
foil on the items so as to cover them completely. You can use small
pieces of foil, say around 2” X 2” or 3” X 3” pieces. Pour
the boiling water over it. Make sure the items are submerged in the
water. Let it stay for 3 to 4 minutes.
If you witness tarnish in any part of
the idol, clean it using the same foil or a toothbrush. A toothbrush
efficiently cleans narrow and pointed parts of the idol. Rinse with
water. Now, wipe the idol with a soft and dry piece of cloth.
Silver polish on Lord Ganesh Idol

idols with silver polish or toothpaste. Although efficient, it is a
very taxing task. It demands a lot of time and effort. And hence,

idol are easily found in every kitchen.
